Update on shop & Inspiration when you least expect it...

Things are running along at a somewhat frenetic pace.  I always seem to running on at least two different tracks of time.  Normal time, and then there is Mom time. :)  There are days when I am amazed at how much I am able to cram into 24 measly hours, then there are others...  Yes, those days where it takes hours to paint 12 tiny wooden blocks, homework is checked, dinner is eaten at in a high speed panic rush.  Nevertheless, two and nine (almost ten) are really fun ages, that I am trying to enjoy as much as possible, and if that means it takes a week to finish a project, so be it!  That said, I am really excited about the results of the past several days, and a little amazed at how fast things are moving along.  Previews should be showing up either on here, or Facebook soon!

As Bryan and I are developing and making new items, I have really been trying to decide if I want to continue making headbands.  I happened to notice one day that my friend Crystal, who happens to be an awesome photographer was looking for headbands...  This kicked off a flurry of activity. In between trying to put together something that would work well for her photo shoot, and seeing the results, I was just really inspired, so be on the look out for a new collection of headbands when Feath & Kee reopens.

If you are in the North Texas area, and are interested in portraits, I highly recommend Photography by Crystal Stewart.  You can find her on Facebook, and Zenfolio.

Here are the headband pictures... Such a precious angel!

These are some of my favorites...

Halloween ReCap ... Finally!

It is not possible to put Halloween 2013 away with out a recap of this year's handmade costumes.  I asked Feather what she wanted to be.  At almost 10, I am not sure how much longer she is going to let me do this, so whatever she wants to be, I try to make it.  Last year it was Yogi Bear and Keela was Boo Boo. They were really cute, but with our Texas weather, the costumes themselves were not exactly appropriate.  They made it through the town's Halloween parade, without succumbing to heat stroke, but still....  I am of the belief that the ultimate costume above all has to be fun to wear, or it just defeats the purpose.

So when Feather informed me this year that she and Keela would be bats, I set about trying to figure out the best way to go about this.  I stumbled upon another Texas mom, Dana, who tackled this a couple of years ago.  Check out her blog here.  With a simple cape and hood, you have your costume.  This worked out great for us.  If it was hot we could do short sleeves, cold, we could switch to long.

My learning experience here, is that when working with poly satin, it really does make a difference on how you cut the fabric.  Also, while making your pattern on the computer and printing can simplfy things, make sure that you lock in the scale when you enlarge it. :)  Did this with Keela's and did not with Feather's.  My life would have been a whole lot easier had I kept everything to scale (Thank you Bryan for helping me put the crazy/weird pattern together!).  Although I am sure all of you already know that.  All in all, I had a lot of fun sewing these, and the girls love them.  Even though when Keela saw Feather's hood for the first time she ran away saying that she was "scared of the purple pig". lol

I will stop blathering and get on to the pictures...  These were taken as soon as they were finished.  For Halloween, they wore black and pink clothes with the capes and hoods.

Treasured Thursday - Twenty Eighth Edition

Hello Thursday! If you have happened by Feath & Kee, you might notice that the shop is on vacation.  You would think that this would mean that Bryan and I would be relaxing on a beach somewhere.  However, those of you from the Etsy / Handmande / Vintage world might also relate to the hum of activity that is taking place around day jobs, chasing kids, etc. that makes up our daily life.  The plan is to have Feath & Kee up and running again, revamped and restocked within a couple of weeks.

However, today is Treasured Thursday day, and with all considered, it may be a couple of weeks before the Twenty Ninth Edition.  There was only one item that was featured in a treasury this week.  This was the cute headband with a little poof.  The ladies that featured it in their treasuries also happen to be the owners of two of my favorite shops, so this is another fun post for me.
